Christy Phillips-Brown has been the Vice President of Communications
at Ahold Delhaize for over seven years. Before her corporate career,
she attended Western Carolina University, where she was a member of
the Delta Zeta sorority and currently sits on the
Delta Zeta National Council. Delta Zeta’s motto is in part to “develop leaders who enrich the
world,” yet Christy is a glaring failure when it comes to living up
to that ideal. Under her so-called leadership, Ahold Delhaize has
yet to transition to 100% cage-free eggs, despite making a
commitment to do so nearly a decade ago.
Christy Phillips-Brown’s apparent inaction in the face of filthy,
out-of-step cages is exactly why she is also featured on
A-HoleDelhaize.com, which calls out top Ahold Delhaize executives for seeming to
ignore the cruelty of animals locked in tiny enclosures, as they
present themselves as responsible leadership to the public.
Until
Ahold Delhaize ends its use of inhumane cages, Christy
Phillips-Brown will remain a giant a-hole in our book, and whose
company seems to make empty promises for publicity and clout.
Most importantly, Christy has the power—and ethical responsibility—to end the animal abuse in Ahold Delhaize’s supply chain. So why won’t she?
Nearly a decade ago,
companies that would merge to become Ahold Delhaize promised
consumers they would end the abuse of hens in their supply
chains. However, Ahold Delhaize still has not fulfilled this
sustainability goal. Ahold Delhaize is
only 100% cage-free in states where it’s legally required, such as Massachusetts. The company continues to sell eggs that
come from extremely
cruel, dirty, and inhumane conditions
in states where it’s not illegal to do so. Consumers are outraged
and want Ahold Delhaize to take its commitment seriously and follow
through on its promise to stop supporting the cruel caging of
egg-laying hens.
As consumers—and Ahold Delhaize’s own leaders—know, making a
promise is not the same as making good on a
promise.
Caged egg-laying hens spend their lives crammed
together in barren wire cages. They cannot dust-bathe or express
most of their natural behaviors. Often, they suffer from broken
bones and mental anguish. Each hen is unable even to spread her
wings, and she only has as much space as the size of a sheet of
paper within which to live her entire, miserable life. Ahold
Delhaize claims to be “a passionate supporter of the well-being and welfare of farm
animals,” yet its brands continue to support a practice so cruel that
many states have made it illegal.
True leadership means acting with integrity
everywhere, not just where the law requires it. That’s why
we’re calling on Christy to lead Ahold Delhaize in going 100%
cage-free across all its stores.
Will Christy Phillips-Brown choose to do the right thing and
encourage her fellow leaders to ensure Ahold Delhaize fulfills its
cage-free egg commitment, or will she continue to let Ahold
Delhaize fail to fulfill its sustainability pledge?
Click “Take Action” below to tell Christy
Phillips-Brown that consumers demand accountability and animals
deserve better. Now is the time to demonstrate true leadership by
showing the world that Ahold Delhaize is committed to upholding its
promises and ending the abuse of animals in its supply chain.
